At Begin Development, we understand what strategic planning is (and is not) about.

As the leader of an organization, part of your job is to make informed, fact-based choices with actionable results, and keep the strategies alive company-wide. Sound easy? It’s not. But it is essential and if you do it right, your organization will grow and thrive.

  • What we want to achieve, broad objectives, usually to be accomplished over the next 3-5 years. Think qualitative. Objectives should be consistent with the mission and vision of your organization.

  • Quantitative target of progress toward objectives. Usually includes 4-6 metrics, covering large, overriding considerations such as: share, volume, profit, engagement. Use the acronym SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) to guide you.

  • Words describing how advantage will be created. How we will achieve our goals and objectives? How we will win? These are the 5-6 key strategies designed to build the competitive advantage necessary to achieve the goals.

  • Numbers quantifying progress toward the strategic advantage. Think specific, with a one year horizon.
